Khao Tao is around 14 km south of Hua Hua and makes for a nice day out. If you look from the beach you’ll be able to see the hill, with the golden Buddha image perched at the top. We decided to take a walk to the top. Khao Tao means Turtle Hill.
There are a few different temples scattered around the hill and many Buddha and other statues placed all over it.
At the foot of the hill you’ll see this Chinese Temple. Just follow the path from there and you’ll come to the steps that lead up the hill.
At the start there are mostly golden statues, but as you get further along, the statues become more colorful.
I thought the statue shown above was one of the more interesting ones. I’m not sure what it’s meant to represent though.
If you look back down the hill you’ll get a view of the houses below that are built along a small inlet from the sea.
About halfway up the hill, there’s a small area where locals and tourists come to pray. This is where we saw this large piece of honeycomb.
The last section of hill is a little more difficult to navigate, so be very careful. There are paved sections that have large holes in them and steps that may be too steep if you’re less able. But make it to the top and you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful golden Buddha statue and some amazing views looking out to the sea.
Above is what you’ll see when you get to the top of the hill.
