Khao San Road Reopening In August

Khao San Road is where all the backpackers tend to head to. It’s also known as Party Central. For the last few months it’s been closed, as it was being given a makeover.

Apart from that, bars and clubs have been closed, so it’s been pretty deserted. But it’s reopening again soon.

UPDATE: It’s now been announced that Thailand’s pubs and bars will reopen on 1st July, so this should include Khao San Road as well.

Yes, it’s true. Khao San Road is reopening in August with a brand new look.

The whole street has been repaved, and the vendors will be kept off the road. It should make for a more pleasant experience for everyone.

But what will the atmosphere be like when it reopens? It’s hard to tell, as the street usually replies on backpacker tourists, but there aren’t many around at the moment, except for a few that are “stuck” in Thailand.

I have a feeling it will be a very quiet start, but it will be good to have things up and running again, as it means locals will have at least some work.

The Club, Khao San Road, Bangkok

The Club Khao San Road is currently closed. I don’t know if it will open in August, as I guess it depends on how busy things will be.

As Khao San Road relies so much on backpackers, I wonder I how it fits in with the new plan of trying to attract high net worth individuals.

Apparently, mass tourism is over in Thailand, so will backpackers still arrive in the numbers they did in the past?

I doubt they will this year, but maybe we’ll get back to normality sometime next year.
