Whenever I visit a new place I like to keep an eye out for the quirkier side of things. I like discovering things that are funny, weird or just particularly interesting to me. Here’s what I’ve manage to find in Hua Hin.
Hanging Around
Hua Hin has lots of unusual street art, but I particularly like this monkey that’s hanging from some cables in the middle of an intersection,
Tinned Pigeon
When I first saw this, I thought “WTF, who eats pigeon?”. Turns out that the label says Pigeon Band. It’s actually pickled cabbage.
Mini
This awesome Mini caught my eye because the first car I ever owned was black Mini. Also, my first job after leaving school was at British Leyland, who used to make Minis in the UK.
Baby On Board
I’ve got no idea why some lorries have these babies on board.
Hua Hin isn’t the only place I’ve seen this. It’s fairly common.
Supercar Parking
Surely, the Mini should have been parked here. This is Bluport Shopping Mall, where you get special parking if you own a supercar. I find that to be pretty weird.
Street Art
I love cats, so this caught my eye. There are lots of street art cats around the city. And a few real ones as well.
Monkeys
It’s not everywhere that you come across monkeys in the city. Here’s one enjoying some fruit.
Tree With Roof
We saw this tree with a roof at a local temple. There are a couple of seats and some books, so that you can sit and read in the shade. Awesome idea.
Plane
This isn’t actually in Hua Hin, but just outside the town. We saw it when we stopped to buy petrol just before arriving.
Red Datsun
This old red Datsun is parked outside Mongdulay Seafood Restaurant. As a bonus, here’s a video of the restaurant and fantastic sea view.
Volkswagen Type 3 Variant
This Volkswagen Type 3 Variant was produced from 1961-1973, so this car is probably over 50 years old.
Giant Saxophone
This giant saxophone is outside My Way Hotel, which is a music themed hotel.
Step On Here For Sterilization
If you need to be sterilized, then this is the place for you.
FUKU
This made me laugh. Sounds like a pretty rude name for a cafe. Or maybe it’s just my weird mind. LOL.
Goats
You don’t see many goats in Thailand, so I was surprised to see these in a garden down a quiet side street. This one has two heads!!!
Egg Basket
This is the best egg basket I’ve ever seen. Very apt design.
Pigs At The Temple
It’s not often you see pigs at a temple. These are at Borfai Temple, near Soi 6.
Train Carriage
I don’t know what this is called, but you sometimes see railway maintenance men riding them along the track.
KFC vs. JFC
It looks like KFC have finally have some competition.
Kipling The Monkey
I’ve passed this Kipling store many times, but it was only a few days ago that I realized that the last part of the name, ling, is Thai for monkey. What a strange coincidence that the brand logo is a monkey.
Welcmeo
When we drove passed a few days later, this had been corrected.
